Report: California Science Center Gets 'Extradordinary' Gift
(LOS ANGELES) -- Officials say the California Science Center has received an "extraordinary" financial gift to the new Air and Space Center in South Los Angeles, which will eventually house the space shuttle endeavor, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The gift comes from a foundation chaired by Lynda Oschin, the widow of philanthropist and Los Angeles businessman Samuel Oschin. Officials would not say how much money they received, but they did say they have raised about half of the $200 million needed to build a new wing in the museum, ship the shuttle to California, and house it in a hangar.
The new wing of the museum is scheduled to open in 2017, according to the report.
