California Unemployment Rate Down, Still Among Nation's Highest

(LOS ANGELES) -- The employment situation in California showed slight improvement in April, according to figures released Friday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A report by the bureau states that in April the state's unemployment rate was 10.9 percent, down from 11 percent in March.

For the month of April, California had the third highest unemployment rate in the nation behind Nevada (11.7 percent) and Rhode Island (11.2 percent).

The national unemployment rate for April was 8.1 percent, down from 8.2 percent the previous month.
