(LOS ANGELES) -- Infant deaths are down in California, according to information released by the state's Department of Public Health on Tuesday.

In a news release the department said for 2010, California's infant mortality rate stood at 4.7 deaths per 1,000 births. This figure represents a decrease when compared to the 2009 rate of 4.9 deaths for every 1,000 births.
