Senate Approves Bill to Protect Businesses from Pricey ADA Lawsuits

(LOS ANGELES) -- The California State Senate has approved legislation aimed at protecting small businesses from expensive lawsuits that involve the Americans with Disabilities Act, ABC affiliate KABC-TV reports.

SB1186 would prevent plaintiffs and attorneys from demanding money before they file a lawsuit. Currently, however, the bill does not give businesses a chance to fix the violation in order to stop the lawsuit.

Some lawmakers are trying to change the bill so that it would give businesses 90 days to fix the violation.
