Boy, 11, Killed in Overnight Shooting in Oakland

(OAKLAND, Calif.) -- An 11-year-old boy is dead following an early-morning shooting in Oakland on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Luis Hernandez, who was shot around 1 a.m. as he slept at his home on the 200 block of Makin Road, according to police.

Published reports state that gunfire erupted outside of the house, with a number of bullets entering the home.

"They were shooting at my mom's room and then it went through the door where my brother was sleeping and he got shot in the chest," the victim's brother Francisco Hernandez told ABC station KGO-TV.

There were no reports of other people in the home being injured.

There were no immediate arrests.
