BART to Enact New Security Initiatives

(SAN FRANCISCO) -- Bay Area Rapid Transportation will have a set of new safety initiatives starting as soon as next week.

According to the San Francisco Examiner, BART officers will have portable video cameras and unruly passengers could face bans from BART property. The changes were made partially in response to the plot to attack an Amtrak train in Canada that was foiled earlier this week.

All officers will have video recorders that will allow for better documentation of any interaction with problematic customers. Additionally, BART will not be able to issue stay-away orders to those who commit infractions including defacement of property, public urination, or violent crimes, according to the Examiner.

BART officials have also discussed additional safety changes, including redesigning station booths.
