San Jose Cops Arrest Three in Identity Theft Operation

(SAN JOSE, Calif.) -- The theft of a check book from a San Jose home last year, has led to police uncovering an elaborate fraud scheme, and three persons being arrested.

On May 1, Toan Nguyen, 35, Mai Huang, 33, and Kent Do, 27, were arrested on charges of identity theft, fraud, grand theft, and counterfeiting, San Jose Police said in a statement Wednesday.

According to the statement, last year an 85-year-old San Jose man's check book was stolen, and he lost approximately $100,000 as a result. Police said their investigation led to the suspects' home being searched, and officers finding weapons, narcotics, and evidence of a sophisticated identity theft operation.

Police are also searching for 39-year-old Thach Duong and 44-year-old Tri Nguyen as persons of interest in the investigation.

Broken Sewer Pipe Creates Sinkhole

(SAN FRANCISCO) -- Work crews repaired a 20-foot wide sinkhole in San Francisco's Inner Richmond on Tuesday after a sewer line burst.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the sinkhole, which is reportedly at least 100 years old, broke and caused a 10-foot deep hole at the intersection of Lake Street and Second Avenue.

Crews inspected the pipe with a camera robot, according to the Chronicle.

Repairs will reportedly take about two weeks. According to the paper, portions of Lake Street will be closed during the repairs.

One Dead in Oakland Shooting Incident

(OAKLAND, Calif.) -- A man was shot and killed in East Oakland Tuesday night.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, police responded to a report of 20 to 30 shots fired near the 5000 block of Melrose Avenue just before 9 p.m.

The male victim was taken to a hospital, and was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Chronicle reports that a nearby fire station, Engine Company 18, had windows broken by gunfire.

Cops Search for Suspects in Attempted Robbery, Stabbing

(SAN FRANCISCO) -- An attempted robbery and stabbing in San Francisco's Taraval district on Tuesday night has left one person hospitalized.

The indent happened around 8:45 p.m. Police say the male victim was approached by two suspects, with one suspect demanding money from the victim. After refusing to give up any money, police say the victim was stabbed in the torso with a knife.

The suspects then fled and the victim took himself to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Sunglasses Thieves Get Away

(SAN FRANCISCO) -- Two women stole sunglasses from a San Francisco store on Monday despite an employee’s attempt to stop them, according to a police report.

The suspects, described as black women in their twenties, entered a store on Market Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. They grabbed multiple pairs of sunglasses.

The 25-year-old victim tried to stop them from leaving the store with the stolen protective eye wear, but they attacked her and managed to flee.

The victim received numerous scratches during the attack.

Police are investigating the incident.
