Calif. Marine Killed in Combat in Afghanistan, Investigation Launched

(WASHINGTON) -- A California Marine has been killed in combat, while serving as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced over the weekend.

Officials said Cpl. Anthony R. Servin, 22, of Moreno Valley, Calif., died on Friday while conducting combat operations in Helmand province. A news release by the Department of Defense stated that the incident remains under investigation.

Servin was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Pendleton, Calif.
