California Soldier Killed When Patrol Attacked by IED

(WASHINGTON) -- A soldier from California has died while serving as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense said on Thursday.

Military officials said 2nd Lt. Travis A. Morgado, 25, of San Jose, Calif., died on Wednesday in Zharay, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained when his patrol group was attacked by insurgents with an improvised explosive device.

Morgado was assigned to the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.
