Environmentalists Seek to Save California Amphibians

(SAN FRANCISCO) -- The Center for Biological Diversity filed a formal petition Wednesday under the Endangered Species Act to protect the following California species: Shasta Salamander, Limestone Salamander, California Giant Salamander, Kern Canyon Slender Salamander and Kern Plateau Salamander.

The center reports about 25 percent of amphibians and reptiles in the U.S. face extinction due to factors like climate change, pollution and habitat destruction.
