Poll: Half of California Voters Oppose Legalization of Marijuana

(LOS ANGELES) -- Half of all California voters surveyed oppose the legalization of marijuana, according to a recently released USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll.
The Los Angeles Times reports that 80 percent of poll respondents said that they would support medicinal marijuana for severe illnesses, and 46 percent said they would support legalizing the drug for "general or recreational use by adults." Fifty percent of respondents said they oppose it.
The Bay Area was the only part of California where a majority—55 percent—favored the drug’s legalization. About 41 percent Southern California voters favored its legalization and 49 percent favored its legalization in Los Angeles County.
The poll surveyed about 1,000 registered voters across the state between May 17 and 21.
