Search on for Escaped Inmate Who 'Walked Away' from Facility

(MIRAMONTE, Calif.) -- Authorities are searching for an escaped inmate, whom California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials said simply "walked away from the Miramonte Conservation Camp in Fresno County."

Minimum-security inmate Jose Garcia, 39, was reportedly last seen at his assigned bed during a head count on Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., according to a department news release. He was then discovered missing and was not found during a search of the premises.

Garcia -- who began serving a seven-year sentence in February for disregard of public safety -- is described as Hispanic, 5'11" in height, weighs about 155 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.
