(15) Florida Gulf Coast Keeps Cinderella Run Alive, Beats (7) San Diego State

Elsa/Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA) -- Florida Gulf Coast has done it again.

After upsetting the two seed Georgetown Friday, the 15th seeded Eagles dropped the seventh seed San Diego State, 81-71 Sunday, becoming the first 15 seed in NCAA tournament history to reach the Sweet 16.

Up two with 9:55 left in the game, FGCU went on a 17-0 run, eight of those points scored by senior guard Sherwood Brown. When the run was over their was 4:01 left in the game and the Eagles had a 71-52 lead.

Eagles guard Benard Thompson led all scorers with 23 points in the win.

"We're doing something special out here," Thompson said. "We've been told that this is what college basketball is all about. We are really blessed and we're really happy to be here right now."

What's more impressive about FGCU's improbable run is that the school didn't open until 1997, and it just became eligible for the postseason last year.

Next up for FGCU, a date with the three seed Florida. That game will take place Friday at approximately 10:07 p.m. Eastern time.
