(SANTA CLARA, Calif.) -- After a series of posts on social media sites complaining about playing time, the San Francisco 49ers have suspended running back Brandon Jacobs for the final three games of the regular season.
A former featured back with the New York Giants, Jacobs has been used sparingly this season for the first place 49ers. Recently, Jacobs posted a series of pictures of himself playing for the Giants as well as his two Super Bowl rings he won while with the team.
"I am on this team rotting away so why would I wanna put pics up of anything that say niners," Jacobs said in an Instagram post on Saturday. "This is by far the worst year I ever had, I'll tell you like I told plenty others."
That apparently was the latest straw for the 49ers, and the team had had enough. Jacobs had been dealing with a left knee injury but even after coming back healthy, he's had trouble getting onto the field.
Jacobs is the Giants fourth-leading rusher in franchise history. Up until this season, Jacobs never had fewer than 38 carries (which came in his rookie year) but this season, Jacobs has merely five carries for seven yards. Last season, Jacobs had 152 carries for 571 yards and seven touchdowns.
