Alex Rodriguez Goes Hitless in First Rehab Game

Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images (CHARLESTON, S.C.) --  Alex Rodriguez was just happy to be back on the baseball field.

The 37-year-old Rodriguez played three innings and went hitless in two at-bats during his first rehab game with the Charleston RiverDogs on Tuesday night.

The game marked Rodriguez's first appearance in a game since having surgery on his left hip in January.

"To me it was a great blessing to be back out there," Rodriguez said. "It's been a long fight. A hard time. And I'm pretty excited to get a couple of at-bats."

A-Rod grounded into a double play during his first at-bat, then struck out looking on a full count in the third inning.  He has many more rehab assignments before he can return to the New York Yankees.  He hopes to return to the big leagues by July 22.

Overall Rodriguez said that his body felt good after the game, but he expects to be a bit sore when he wakes up on Wednesday morning.

"I didn't move around too much," he said. "I thought the bunt play was OK. It was a good test right off the bat. I'll have a good idea after a half a dozen games. I'll see how my body feels in the morning when I wake up, how it aches."
