Allen Iverson: 'I am Philly'

Brian Bahr/Getty Images(PHILADELPHIA) -- The Philadelphia 76ers honored their former All-Star guard Allen Iverson on Saturday night and retired his No. 3 jersey in the rafters.

Iverson, the 11-time All-Star stopped before making his speech to see if he was dreaming and walked over to one side of the court.

"You have to show me the fool that says dreams don’t come true," Iverson said. "Because they do. I love you, Philadelphia. I love y’all for accepting me and letting me be me. Letting me make my mistakes, letting me be human, let me learn from them. Just embracing me and making this my home forever."

Iverson was greeted by 20,000-plus screaming fans and thanked former teammates and friends during halftime of the 76ers game against Washington.

"I am Philly," Iverson said. "It's always going to be that way."

Iverson's jersey was placed between Maurice Cheeks' No. 10 and Charles Barkley's No. 34.

"They all wanted me to talk about how much y'all loved me," Iverson said, "but trust me, the feeling was mutual."
