Arkansas Welcomes New Football Coach Bret Bielema

Joe Robbins/Getty Images(FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.) -- The University of Arkansas introduced Bret Bielema as their new head football coach on Wednesday.

The 42-year-old Bielema spent seven seasons as head coach at Wisconsin, leading the Badgers to a record of 68-24 and three consecutive Big Ten conference championships. Wisconsin is headed to the Rose Bowl, but Bielema said he will not coach the team at the game.

“I had some opportunities come my way the last two years, probably that made me begin to think a little bit,” Bielema said. “I got such a tremendous respect for Wisconsin, but the opportunity to be in the SEC is something I really wanted to do.”

The Razorbacks fired former coach Bobby Petrino before the beginning of last season, after it was discovered he lied to school officials about having a female school employee with him during a motorcycle accident. Interim coach John L. Smith went 4-8 this season.
