Barry Sanders Wins "Madden NFL 25" Cover Vote

Matthew Stockman/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders will be on the cover of Madden NFL 25 after he beat out Vikings running back Adrian Peterson in a nationwide vote.

Sanders took home 58 percent of the more than 700,00 votes casted on the final matchup.  Peterson is the NFL's reigning MVP.

"Congrats to my guy Barry Sanders for winning the 2013 Madden Cover! Any other guy to take me down... it would've been a problem! Salute," Peterson wrote on Twitter on Wednesday.

Sanders spent 10 seasons with the Detroit Lions and rushed for 15,269 yards and 99 touchdowns before walking away from the game in 1998.

This will be the second time Sanders appears on the cover.  He last appeared on the Madden 2000 cover.

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson was on last year's cover.
