(WACO, Texas) -- Their rankings may not have been far apart, but that was about all that was close when Oklahoma and Baylor finished their Big 12 showdown Thursday night.
Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another two as the No. 6 Bears crushed the No. 10 Sooners, 41-12.
"Going into this game it was kind of the first time we had a true test as far as the whole hype of the situation," Petty said when talking about Baylor beating its first ranked opponent this season. "As far as us being top 10 and them being top 10 it was a big game. I was proud of the guys for handling it well."
It took a little time to get going, but when the Bears did, they didn't stop. Oklahoma (7-2, 4-2 Big 12) took a 5-3 lead with 12:19 in the second quarter when kicker Michael Hunnicutt nailed a 22-yard field goal. But Baylor proceeded to score 28 unanswered points and never looked back.
Freshman running back Shock Linwood rushed for a career-high 182 yards in the win.
Baylor (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) is now tied with Texas atop the Big 12 standings.
Baylor will continue its quest to stay undefeated next Saturday when it hosts Texas Tech.
