Blue Jays Release Vladimir Guerrero

Mark Cunningham/MLB Photos via Getty Images(TORONTO) -- The Toronto Blue Jays released designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero from his minor league contract at his request Tuesday.

In eight games with Triple-A Las Vegas, the 37-year-old Guerrero batted .314 with four RBIs. In four games with Single-A Dunedin he belted four homers with eight RBIs.

The nine-time All-Star spent 16 years in the major leagues, most recently with the Baltimore Orioles in 2011. He owns a career batting average of .318 with 449 home runs and 1,496 RBIs.

Guerrero won the American League MVP award in 2004 with the Anaheim Angels.
