Bylsma Agrees to Two-Year Extension with Penguins

Jared Wickerham/Getty Images(PITTSBURGH) -- Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma doesn't need to worry about his future any longer.

The Pittsburgh Penguins agreed to a two-year contract extension with Bylsma on Wednesday. This comes after speculation that Bylsma would be let go after the top-seeded Penguins were swept in the Eastern Conference Finals by the Boston Bruins.

"I really believe we have a great head coach in Dan Bylsma," Penguins general manager Ray Shero said. "I believe he's the coach to lead us forward. I have faith in his ability as a coach to get better as he moves forward."

The numbers back up Shero's feelings. This season, Bylsma became the quickest coach in NHL history to win 200 games. Bylsma has led the Penguins to five straight playoff berths.

The 42-year-old Bylsma's new contract keeps him with the team through the 2015-16 season.

The Penguins also gave extensions to assistant coaches Todd Reirden and Tony Granato.
