Canadiens Give Weise 2-Year Extension

iStockPhoto/Thinkstock(MONTREAL) -- The Montreal Canadiens agree to a 2-year contract extension with winger Dale Weise Tuesday.

Weise was scheduled to become a restricted free agent on July 1.

"The acquisition of Dale Weise contributed to the success of our team this season," Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin said. "A young veteran with a lot of character, Dale is an intense player with a strong work ethic. We're very pleased to have him as part of our team moving forward."

The 25-year-old Weise was traded to the Habs from Vancouver in February.

Weise played well for Montreal during the post-season scoring three goals and dishing out four assists in 16 games.

The team has not released the financial terms of the deal.
