Cardinals Extend GM's Contract, Pick Up Matheny's Option

Mozeliak joined the Cardinals in October 2007. Since his arrival,  the Cardinals have averaged 88 wins a season, made the postseason three times and won the 2011 World Series.

"Since taking over in 2007, the results on the field speak for themself," Chairman William DeWitt said of Mozeliak. "Beyond that we have total alignment on our vision for this organization, and that is to compete year in and year out at the major league level, and we know the only way to do that consistently is to have a strong player procurement and development program."

As for Matheny, last season was his first as Cardinals skipper. He led the team to an 88-74 record and finished a win short of reaching the World Series. Matheny did all of this after the Cardinals lost star first baseman Albert Pujols to free agency.
