Cardinals' Kolb Injured In Preseason Opener

Al Pereira/Getty Images(CANTON, OHIO) --  Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb was injured and had to leave the teams' preseason opener in the Hall of Fame game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday night.    .

Kolb was tackled by Saints defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis as he went to complete a pass.  He bruised his ribs, according to the team.

Kolb is competing with John Skelton for the starting quarterback position.  He finished 1 for 4 for 4 yards and threw one interception.  Skelton finished 4 for 6 for 32 yards.

After coming over in a trade from the Philadelphia Eagles last year, Kolb threw for nine touchdowns in nine starts with the Cardinals.  In his first year with the Cardinals, Kolb started nine games and threw for nine touchdowns.

Skelton was 5-2 as the Cardinals' signal caller in 2011 in the games Colb missed.  Arizona went 8-8 in 2011.

The Cardinals fell to the Saints 17-10 in the opener.
