Cavaliers Center Anderson Varejao Out for Season with Torn Achilles

NBA via Cleveland Cavaliers(NEW YORK) -- Already struggling on the defensive end of the floor, the Cleveland Cavaliers front court depth has taken a major hit as center Anderson Varejao will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon.

Varejao suffered the injury after he landed awkwardly in the third quarter of the Cavs win over the Minnesota Timberwolves Tuesday night.

The Cavaliers have struggled on the defensive end this season, and were already making calls to teams to try and acquire another big man.

The 32-year-old Varejao has spent his entire 11-year career with the Cavaliers, and is the team's longest tenured player.

Prior to the start of the season, the Cavaliers signed Varajao to a three-year extension worth $30 million, but it is unknown if or when he'll be able to step back out onto the court.

In 26 games this season, Varejao was averaging 9.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.
