Cleveland Browns' Josh Gordon says he's sober, wants to be best NFL receiver ever

Photo by Allen Kee / ESPN Images(CLEVELAND) -- Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon said Wednesday that he is "clean and sober" and wants to be the best wide receiver in NFL history.

Gordon had been repeatedly suspended for violations of the league's substance abuse policy over the last two seasons. He has not played in a regular season game since 2014.

After NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell approved his request for reinstatement last week, Gordon will be allowed to work out with the team until he is able to be activated later this month.

After telling reporters that his goal is to be the best ever, Gordon explained that he's always had that aspiration. "To me that's always been my goal and I think it's been reaffirmed to me time and time again."

"Now being back in the situation to do it, I'm going to see it through."

Gordon also said he has created a support group of friends and family that he believes will keep him sober. "My life is just in a conducive space of where I need to be for me psychologically, physically," he said. "It's all come together. Right now at this point in my life, I'm feeling well. I'm feeling great."
