Cubs Top Rockies 4-3 in 16-Inning Marathon

Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(CHICAGO) -- In a wild game that neither team will likely forget for a while, the Chicago Cubs defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-3 in 16 innings.

Emilio Bonafacio's home run in the bottom of the 4th inning tied the game 4-4, and there wouldn't be another run scored for 12 innings after shortstop Starlin Castro hit a sac-fly to score catcher Jon Baker.

Speaking of Baker, the Cubs ran out of pitchers, so the team turned to the veteran catcher to pitch for the very first time in his seven-year career. He became the first Cubs position player to pitch since 2012.

"It's really cool to get a chance to do this," Baker said. "I was having trouble not smiling on the mound. You never get opportunities to do things like this."

Baker pitched one inning of relief, walked one batter, and wound up getting the win in his pitching debut.

Clocking in at 6 hours and 27 minutes, it was the longest game in the history of both the Chicago Cubs and Colorado Rockies in terms of total time.
