Tom Pennington/Getty Images Sport (NEW YORK) -- On the eve of NFL free agency, the Seattle Seahawks signed defensive end Michael Bennett to a multiyear contract extension.

According to ESPN, Bennett signed a four-year, $28.5 million deal, with $16 million guaranteed. He was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on Tuesday.

Bennett will make $10 million in the first year, $6 million in the second year, $5 million in the third year and $7.5 million in the final year.

The Seahawks signed Bennett to a one-year, $4.8 million deal in 2013 after he spent the first four seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had 8.5 sacks in the regular season along with one forced fumble and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.

His stellar play continued in the postseason as Bennett helped Seattle capture its first Super Bowl championship.
