Denny Hamlin Wins Pole At Martinsville

Chris Graythen/Getty Images for NASCAR(MARTINSVILLE, Va.) -- Denny Hamilin picked up his 17th career pole at Martinsville Speedway on Friday in dominant fashion.  Hamlin recorded a lap at 99.595 mph around the 0.526-mile oval for the track record for the pole on Sunday.

Hamlin has won four races at Martinsville and is looking forward to another shot at a Grandfather clock.

"I think both my teammates and the guys who are around will know that I'm racing for a race win and that's it," Hamlin said. "I'll take more risks, obviously, when racing for a win. I will be a lot more aggressive with a non-teammate than I will with a teammate, so that part of it is a little bit different, but that would be the only way I don't give 100 percent racing for a win."

Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports teammate Kyle Busch finished with the same qualifying speed of 99.344 mph and will share the front row.

"I felt like I had a good last lap," Johnson said.  "I think the conditions were pretty tough for everybody."

Johnson holds a four-point lead over Matt Kenseth headed into Sunday.
