Derek Fisher Signs With Mavericks

Ronald Martinez/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Veteran guard Derek Fisher has found a home in the NBA.

The 38-year old Fisher has agreed to a deal with the Dallas Mavericks, according to coach Rick Carlisle. "Right now, the point guard position is a challenge for us," Carlisle said. "I think Derek can help us."

Fisher played last season with the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging 5.6 points per game. He played 22 minutes per game with the Thunder, who made the NBA Finals.

The Mavericks were forced to start Dominique Jones for only the third time in his career against Chicago on Wednesday night after Darren Collison could not go because of a sprained middle finger, and hope Fisher can bring experience and steady play to the point guard position.
