Derek Lowe Designated for Assignment
Tom Szczerbowski/Getty Images(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) -- Veteran pitcher Derek Lowe was designated for assignment Wednesday night by the Cleveland Indians. The 39-year-old sinkerballer was in his first season with the Indians.
In 21 starts, the former World Series champ posted a 8-10 record with a 5.52 ERA, while walking more batters then he struck out. Lowe began the season 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA, but is 2-9 since with his ERA ballooning to 5.52.
Lowe has played for five teams throughout his 16-year career. He has a career record of 174-156 to go along with 85 saves.
Lowe's roster spot will be taken by pitcher Corey Kluber.
