Detroit Pistons, New York Knicks to Play in London

Patrick McDermott/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The NBA is coming back to London during the 2012-2013 season.

The league announced that the Detroit Pistons and New York Knicks will play a regular-season game in London on January 17.

The game will take place at the O2 Arena, the site of the 2012 Olympic gold-medal game, won by the United States.

NBA Commissioner David Stern says "playing our third regular-season game in the city in three years and having historic franchises like the Knicks and Pistons serve as our ambassadors provide extraordinary opportunities to further the game's growth and development in the UK and throughout Europe."

The Toronto Raptors and the then-New Jersey Nets played two regular-season games in London in March 2011.  The NBA skipped international play in the lockout-shortened 2011-2012 season.
