Dodgers Nip D-Backs 5-3 After Benches-Clearing Brawl

Stephen Dunn/Getty Images(LOS ANGELES) --  The Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers engaged in a benches-clearing brawl Tuesday night during the seventh inning of a 5-3 Dodgers victory,

Things escalated when Arizona starter Ian Kennedy drilled Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke in the left shoulder.  Greinke proceeded to charge the mound and both teams began fighting near the Arizona on-deck circle.

A total of six people were ejected, including Kennedy, manager Kirk Gibson, and coach Turner Ward for Arizona.  Rookie phenom Yasiel Puig, pitcher Ronald Belisario, and hitting coach Mark McGwire were tossed for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers were already upset that Puig was hit in the head by a 92-MPH fastball in the sixth-inning.  Greinke retaliated by striking Arizona catcher Miguel Montero in the back during the next inning.

"If you can't pitch inside without hitting somebody in the head, then you shouldn't pitch inside," Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. "So, [Puig] gets hit in the face, Montero gets hit in the back, it's over. It continued on. Talk is cheap. It doesn't matter. It's a good win for us."

There could be fines and suspensions looming for both teams.
