EJ Manuel Ready for Big Challenge in Buffalo

Al Bello/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Buffalo Bills gambled in round one of the NFL Draft on Thursday night and came out with the quarterback they wanted, EJ Manuel.

Manuel landed with Buffalo following a trade for their eighth overall pick to the St. Louis Rams for the 16th pick and they acquired an additional second-and seventh round selection (46th and 222nd overall).

The Bills have failed to make the playoffs in 13 years and are hoping Manuel can be the man who leads them back.

"If we can develop this guy, he has the talent to take you to the dance," Bills general manager Buddy Nix said of his new face of the franchise.  "This guy was further along than most of them as far as his knowledge of the game. ...This guy, to us, has got leadership qualities. He's smart. And he's big."

Manuel went 25-6 in four years with the Seminoles and threw for 3,397 yards with 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 14 starts last season.

"I know there's work to be done," Manuel said after being drafted.
