ESPN: Rams Running Back Steven Jackson Will Test Free Agency

NFL via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- One of the greatest players in St. Louis Rams history may be ready for a new chapter in his career. According to ESPN, running back Steven Jackson will void the final year of his contract and become a free agent this offseason.

Jackson is the Rams all-time leading rusher and has been with the team since 2004, but he's made the playoffs just once in his career. In fact, Jackson has never been on a winning team in his entire career. The best team he ever played for, record wise, was in 2004 when the team was 8-8.

Even though he'll be 30 once the 2013 season starts, Jackson remains one of the most consistent players in the NFL. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards for eight straight seasons. Last season, he ran for 1,042 yards with four touchdowns.

Jackson was set to earn $7 million from the Rams in 2013, and with Jackson seeking an extension, both sides seem ready to part ways. With a youth movement underway, Jackson may be looking to continue his career with a contender.

If Jackson does leave, the Rams will likely go with a duo of Isaiah Pead and Daryl Richardson at running back.
