ESPN: Vikings Sign Defensive End Everson Griffen to Five-Year Deal

Scott Boehm/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Minnesota Vikings wasted no time in free agency as ESPN is reporting that they've brought back defensive end Everson Griffen to a five-year deal.

ESPN is also reporting that Griffen's deal is worth $42.5 million with $20 million in guaranteed money.

Even though Griffen hasn't yet had his big breakout season, the team is confident that Griffen is about to unlock his true potential.

A fourth round pick out of USC, Griffen has proven to be a dependable player in the Vikings defensive system.

In 2012, Griffen recorded 8.0 sacks and had 26 tackles. He took a step back in 2013, as he notched just 5.5 sacks on 27 tackles. He did have 2.5 sacks in the final two games of the season.

After making the playoffs in 2012, the Vikings suffered a terrible follow-up, as they went just 5-10-1 and missed the playoffs.
