Florida Loses Yeguete for Season

Al Messerschmidt/Getty Images(GAINESVILLE, Fla.) -- The second ranked Florida Gators will lose Will Yeguete for the rest of the regular season, after head coach Billy Donovan announced Thursday the junior forward will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

"He's obviously made a huge impact on our team," Donovan said. "He's a guy that does things for our team that not a lot of guys do. He's a great defender, great rebounder. He gives you a lot of flexibility on the defensive end of the floor of things you can do from pressing to half-court defense to switching to having him guard certain players. That's going to be definitely a loss."

Yeguete has been dealing with swelling in the knee over the past couple weeks because pieces of cartilage were loose in the joint.

The 6-foot-7, 240 pound Yeguete averages six points and a team high 6.3 rebounds per game.

Yeguete is expected to have surgery Friday and the Gators hope he will be back for the SEC tournament.
