Greg Oden Suffers Another Setback

Portland Trail Blazers/NBA(PORTLAND, OR) -- Greg Oden just can’t get healthy. The Portland Trail Blazers said Monday their 7-foot center ended up having microfracture surgery on his left knee for the second time in his career. Oden originally went to the surgeon for a procedure to clear out his knee, the surgeon determined microfracture surgery was necessary.

Oden has now had three microfracture surgeries, two on his left knee and one on his right. He also had surgery on a fractured left kneecap.

"It's hard to put into words the heartbreak for everyone involved, but especially for Greg. He's a young man who has experienced a great number of physical challenges in his playing career and today is yet another significant setback for him," Trail Blazers president Larry Miller said in a statement. "We have a lot of empathy for Greg and his family during this difficult time."

Oden, the number one pick in the 2007 draft, has not played a game since December 5, 2009.  He will miss the remainder of the season.
