(NEW YORK) -- Cubs starter Kyle Hendricks (5-1) allowed one earned run on three hits across seven innings as Chicago (54-70) took care of the New York Mets (59-67) on Monday, 4-1.
With the game tied at one in the top of the eighth inning, Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo took a 1-1 pitch from Mets reliever Buddy Carlyle and sent it over the right field wall. Chicago would tack on two more runs in the ninth, on a two-run homer from rookie second baseman Javier Baez.
First baseman Lucas Duda put the Mets on the scoreboard first with a solo blast off of Hendricks in the fourth.
Mets starter Carlos Torres, filling in for Bartolo Colon, tossed five scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out six.
