Tied 20-20 at the end of regulation, Dan Carpenter missed a 48-yard field goal in overtime that could have won the game for the Dolphins (1-2).

The Jets (2-1) came back down the field and set up a 33-yard field goal try for the win.  The initial attempt was blocked, but it was negated by a timeout called by Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin.  The retry from 33 yards out with 6:04 left gave the Jets the win.

The Jets offense struggled all game.  Mark Sanchez was 21-of-45 for 306 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.  Receiver Santonio Holmes had a standout game with nine catches for 147 yards.

Both teams suffered key injuries as both Darrelle Revis of the Jets and Reggie Bush of the Dolphins left the game with knee injuries.

Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill passed for 196 yards and had an interception for Miami.
