Jets Take Down Patriots 30-27 In Overtime

Davie Dermer/Diamond Images/Getty Images(EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.) --  Nick Folked kick a 42-yard field goal with 5:07 remaining in overtime, and the New York Jets edged the New England Patriots 30-27 on Sunday afternoon.

Folk had initially missed a 56-yard attempt earlier in the period, but he was given another chance thanks to a newly instituted rule that gave New England an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

Patriots rookie Chris Jones was whistled for pushing his teammate "into the opponents' formation."  It was a 15-yard penalty that allowed the Jets (4-3) to defeat their AFC East rivals.

"I was like, `You know what? It's about time we got a break," Jets head coach Rex Ryan said, smiling. "That's really what I was thinking. It just worked out."

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick didn't quite agree with the call.

"You can't push in the second level," Belichick said. "I didn't think we did that."

Geno Smith threw for 233 yards with one touchdown.  He added a rushing touchdown in the third quarter that gave the Jets a 24-21 lead.

Tom Brady and the Patriots (5-2) tied the game with 16 seconds left on a 44-yard field goal by Stephen Gostowski.  They received a much-needed boost offensively with the season debut of Rob Gronkowski.  He caught eight passes from Brady for 114 yards in the loss.

The Jets snapped a six-game losing streak against the Patriots.
