Josh Bailey Agrees to Five-Year Contract with Islanders

Mike Stobe/NHLI via Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Center Josh Bailey agreed to a five-year contract with the New York Islanders Monday that will keep the 23-year-old with the team through the 2017-18 season.

According to, the deal is worth $16.5 million.

"Josh has become an important member of the young core of the players we have in our dressing room," Islanders general manager Garth Snow said in a release. "We're excited to come to terms with him on a deal that will ensure he is a member of this team as we solidify ourselves as consistent playoff contenders."

The Islanders selected Bailey with the ninth overall pick in the 2008 NHL Draft.

In 38 games played in 2013, Bailey had 11 goals and eight assists. Bailey scored nine of his goals over the teams final 20 games, helping lead the Islanders to the postseason for the first time since 2007.
