Louisville Wins National Championship

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(ATLANTA) -- For the second straight year, a team from Kentucky has won the men's college basketball national championship.

Luke Hancock scored a career-high 22 points as Louisville topped Michigan 82-76 Monday night, giving the Cardinals its first national championship since 1986.

The win capped off an amazing week for Louisville head coach Rick Pitino. His son Richard was named Minnesota's head basketball coach, his horse won the Santa Anita Derby and  on Monday morning he was told he had been elected into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame.

Pitino became the first coach in history to win a national championship with two different schools (Kentucky 1996).

Louisville guard Peyton Siva had 18 points, six rebounds and five assists in the final game of his college career.

Michigan star guard Trey Burke led all scorers with 24 points, and freshman Spike Albrecht scored 17 off the bench.

Louisville has now won three national titles.

The University of Kentucky won the championship last year.
