Mariano Rivera Throws Off Mound

Jim McIsaac/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- The Yankees held their first spring training workout for pitchers and catchers on Wednesday.  Baseball's all-time saves leader said he's decided on whether this will be his final season, but didn't officially announce anything.

Mariano Rivera said he plans to let everyone know his decision closer to Opening Day.

‘‘I will tell you guys when I think it’s the right moment,’’ Rivera said.

The 43-year-old right hander had surgery June 12 to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

"It was wonderful to be out there again," Rivera said.  "I was grateful."

The 12-time All-Star said he never had any doubts that he wouldn't be back on the mound pitching for the team who drafted him in 1990.

"I'm a positive man, so I always think positive," Rivera said.  "There were many times that I had a lot of soreness, but it never went through my mind that I don't want to do it again."
