Maurice Jones-Drew Out Until May

NFL via Getty Images(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) -- Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew had surgery on his left foot on Friday and will be out until May, according to the team.

Jones-Drew originally hurt his foot against Oakland on Oct. 21, but the team did not opt for surgery then in hopes Jones-Drew could play again. "We had hoped it would -- as others have -- heal without surgery, and it didn't," coach Mike Mularkey said.

Players canot start offseason workouts with coaches until April 15, and the running back or the coach don't expect him to miss any mandatory programs. "Hopefully back by May, late May, early June," Mularkey said. "If it's May, we're not going to miss a lot. I don't think it's significant that we're doing it now. We all felt like he had a chance to play all the way up until this week, and really we were hoping he could."

He finished the season with 414 yards and a touchdown on the ground this season for the Jaguars (2-13).
