Tony Firriolo/MLB Photos(NEW YORK) -- New York Mets starting pitcher Dillon Gee underwent surgery to remove a blood clot from an artery in his throwing shoulder. He will remain hospitalized for the next day or two to make sure the clot has been taken care of.
The 26-year-old Gee said he felt numbness in his fingers Sunday, a day after he pitched. He underwent several tests on Monday which revealed the blood clot.
Gee is 6-7 on the season with a 4.10 ERA. He has struck out 97 batters in 109.2 innings of work.
