Metta World Peace Joining the Knicks

Harry How/Getty Images(NEW YORK) -- Forward Metta World Peace is heading back to New York.

The 33-year-old World Peace, who is from Queens and played his high school ball for La Salle Academy in New York City, said Monday that he's joining the New York Knicks.

The Knicks confirmed that an agreement with the former Defensive Player of the Year has been reached.
According to's Ian Begley, the contract is for two-years, with the first year guaranteed, and is worth $1.6 million per season. The second year of the deal is a player option.

The 6-foot-7 World Peace is due $7.3 million by the the Los Angeles Lakers this season, after they released him via the amnesty provision last week.

World Peace averaged 12.4 points, five rebounds and 1.63 steals per game last season.
