NFL fines Seattle Seahawks $100,000 for handling of Russell Wilson concussion examination

Photo by Phil Ellsworth / ESPN Images(NEW YORK) -- The National Football League fined the Seattle Seahawks $100,000 and mandated remedial training for the team's coaching and medical staffs after it determined the Seahawks failed to follow the league's concussion protocol in a game earlier this season.

According to the league, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson was directed to the sideline for an evaluation by referee Walt Anderson during the team's November 9 game against the Arizona Cardinals. A review determined that the evaluation was not conducted and Wilson was permitted to return to the game.

The team accepted the league's findings, saying simply, "we did not knowingly disregard the Concussion Protocol. Any misstep was unintentional and the result of confusion on the sideline."
