No. 11 Michigan Rallies to Avoid Upset

Streeter Lecka/Getty Images(ANN ARBOR, Mich.) -- Michigan overcame four Devin Gardner turnovers and scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:49 left in the game, as the No. 11 Wolverines avoid the upset and top Akron 28-24 Saturday.

Akron trailed 21-10 heading into the fourth quarter, but Zips linebacker Justin March started off the fourth by intercepting a Gardner pass and taking it 27 yards for the score.

Akron took a 24-21 lead two drives later, when quarterback Kyle Pohl found Tyrell Goodman for a one-yard touchdown.

Michigan answered on the next drive when running back Fitzgerald Toussaint scored on a two-yard run.

The win means Michigan avoids losing to a team in Akron that hasn't won a road game in nearly five years.

"We didn't prepare," Michigan senior offensive lineman Taylor Lewan said. "This is on the seniors...This is on the leadership of this team. Extremely poor, poor leadership especially on my side. Being the one offensive captain on this team, I put that offensive performance on myself. Devin didn't have enough time to throw... Are running backs didn't have enough holes."

Michigan will try to play better next Saturday when it heads to East Hartford to take on Connecticut.
