No. 14 Stanford Faces Off with No. 9 Notre Dame Saturday

iStockphoto/Thinkstock(SOUTH BEND, Ind.) -- The Legends Trophy is up for grabs once again as No. 14 Stanford travels to South Bend, Indiana on Saturday to face No. 9 Notre Dame.

The Cardinal have won four of the last five matchups. Fighting Irish head coach Brian Kelly recognizes his team will have to play smart, solid football to beat the Cardinal.

"They're a deep and talented veteran team and we are going to have to play really, really good football," Kelly said.

Stanford brings an experienced and physical team. The Cardinal boast the No. 2 defense in the country and are led by senior quarterback Kevin Hogan.

To Kelly, the respect starts at the top, with Stanford head coach David Shaw.

"We all know about Stanford and coach Shaw and the consistency they have played at at the national level," Kelly stated. "We have a great deal of respect for their football team, their program and thier coaching staff."

For coach Shaw, he knows his team will face a unique talent in Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson, who, in his opinion, has grown over the past few years.

"Very athletic, very accurate, hard to pin down," Shaw said of Golson. "This year it's the same but he almost just seems composed. Whereas before he seemed a little frantic, now he knows you can't catch him."
